Stories of This Abled City: Experiential Dialogues on Disability in Urban Life is an interactive exhibition taking place from 10–12 June 2026 at the House of Connections, Grote Markt 21, Groningen.

The exhibition presents the city through the experiences of wheelchair users and people with disabilities. It brings together research, lived experience, maps, film, games, creative installations, and workshops. The programme builds on approximately ten years of collaboration between the University of Groningen, students, artists, community partners, and co-researchers with disabilities, including clients of ’s Heeren Loo/Noorderbrug.

With Stories of This Abled City , we aim to show how a city can become more inclusive when the experiences of people with disabilities are taken seriously as valuable knowledge. The exhibition is intended for a broad audience: families, school pupils, students, policymakers, professionals, researchers, and anyone interested in accessibility, inclusion, and urban life.

Highlights of the programme include:

  1. games developed by Hanze students, featuring people with disabilities as heroes, creators, adventurers, and innovative problem-solvers;
  2. talks and guided tours led by researchers, PhD candidates, and former student assistants;
  3. creative visual storytelling workshops for schools, including stop-motion and green screen technology;
  4. public outdoor activities on Wednesday afternoon as part of National Outdoor Play Day, featuring wheelchair sports and inclusive play;
  5. workshops and performances led by experts by experience from ’s Heeren Loo/Noorderbrug.

The full programme can be found here.
