ORBI
De Oosterpoort
Trompsingel 27, 9724 DA GroningenORBI, or The Oscillating Revenge of the Background Instruments, is a chamber music rock group. In The Age of Greed, three classical musicians and a musician from the soul, blues, and rock scene make their bass-heavy instruments wail, growl, and even sing, in a surprising mix of (symphonic) rock, classical music, driving metal, and a touch of blues. You will hear music by Radiohead, Gustav Mahler, The Doors, Ennio Morricone, Sergei Prokofiev, and Metallica, among others.
Of this Dutch quartet, Bram van Sambeek (bassoon) and Rick Stotijn (double bass) both have successful careers in classical music. Percussionist Marijn Korff de Gidts has a classical background but also studied in West Africa and India and is active in many music genres and multimedia projects. Hammond player Sven Figee plays jazz, pop, and rock, has collaborated with a wide variety of artists, and is currently the resident pianist for the TV program Podium Klassiek. Drawing on their favorite playlists and with the help of arranger Marijn van Prooijen, they have created a musical mix that is as surprising as it is addictive.
