Restaurant de Haan

Around the Westerhaven shopping area, there is something for everyone in terms of dining options. For example, on the A-weg, a McDonald's and Restaurant de Haan are located directly opposite each other, not only in terms of their physical location but also in terms of class and concept. De Haan may have the most original dining concept in Groningen. 

In this cozy restaurant, there is no waitstaff; instead, the three chefs present their menu directly to the guests at the table. The surprise menu they serve consists of 5 dishes, each paired with a suitable wine. Various appetizers are served in between. Bread and drinks, including 16 wines, are self-service. Finally, the menu can be expanded with a cheese platter. 

The quality of these menus, curated and prepared by owner Dennis de Haan and colleagues Mart Buikema and Arthur Dijkstra, has not gone unnoticed. The restaurant is mentioned in the Michelin Guide and has received 14.5 points in the Gault & Millau. 

De Haan is open from Tuesday to Saturday. The entry is from 18:30 to 19:00. However, reservation is mandatory, and it is advisable to do so well in advance, as this popular restaurant is often fully booked!
